Tokyo Widescreen

Past blaster! It’s been nearly two years since these were taken, and almost as much time has passed since they had a home online. James asked about them recently (recently as in a couple of months ago), so I figured it was about time I get them posted again.

Click on the images for the QTVR, or see the full-res photos in this Flickr set. If you’re feeling adventurous, try both.

i’m feeling less adventurous, and more melancholy. it’s bizarre to consider that it was two years ago, since the experience seems to linger with me in some form daily. i was just telling James last night about a quick hit of deja vu i had for the trip while standing in the Landing downtown, and i could actually smell the aroma of the fresh crepes mingling with the moisture in the air, the pachinko machines a non-stop staccato behind us. man, Tokyo sucks.

You said it little man. What’s sadder still is that when that moment passed, you realized that not only were you not in Tokyo, but you were in fact at the Jacksonville Landing.

It’s funny you mentioned the aroma because as I was posting these, I had a very distinct memory of the way that apartment smelled and the smell of the air from the balcony. I guess what they say is true; A picture is worth a thousand dollars.

that’s an old wive’s tale. however, olfaction is the sense closest linked to memory, so involuntarily recalling smells isn’t so weird [but still weird]. and that balcony scene there is the one that got me the most. i probably spent more time on that balcony than i did in the apartment, awake or asleep. now, i spend a lot of time at the Jacksonville Landing, trying to smell something. i’m sad to the bone.

Wow Branden, these shots are beautiful. And i was gonna say “gorgeous” but then i thought no one would take me seriously. Naw, brother these are super dope! Next time, remember that I’m almost the same size as a chihuahua. Now you can laugh… but still take me serious. i don’t know how many times i said the words Japan, Tokyo, Japanese this week and that’s not counting during sleep.

Sorry I missed you tonight. By the way, Caribou’s got a single out. 3 tracks, Melody Day, Melody Day remixed by Fourtet and Zoe. Copped it and I’m deluged in it! holla

The shots are really nice. 100 times better than looking for a house.
Talked to Monica, sounds as thought our trip to NC or the guy trip - meet 1/2 way has dissolved. The newest form taken excludes the color white. Don’t worry about white though, you can paint without it.

Sorry Nessa, don’t feel slighted. The NC trip was becoming less and less likely for us due to a lack of funding. The “guy trip” didn’t seem to have any traction, so I kinda gave up on that too. The Romers offered to grace us with their presence (and hopefully, presents) again, so we couldn’t turn it down.

If there’s even a remote possibility of you guys could coming up at the same time, I gotta say, that would be ‘das boom. Consider yourself invited.

Rubens - considered yourself holla’d! I just dropped a Q-Tip in your soda pop!

We do enjoy coming to see you & Heather so much. James & I consider you family. Be careful what you ask for - that’s 9 of us under 1 roof.

Told Heather that I was really hoping you would come to FL soon - maybe in the fall. Understand your PTO days are limited. What if we got married again, could you get time off from work for that?

  9. 9 Branden Aug 13th, 2007 at 4:12 pm

You mean if you marry each other again, or if you remarry?

these are radical B. the next best thing to actually being there. i’m glad you have something to show for all your work. that didn’t look easy. we should just go back, y’know? let Erik know that he doesn’t need to go to the landing anymore - in fact, if he’d stop eating there, he could go to Tokyo again! and also, let Nessa know that us coming up there has absolutely nothing to do with them. they can still do whatever they like - and we can go to more than one place a year. shazzam! in fact, i never even heard that NC thing discussed again after you and i came up with it, so…

    ..bring you some presence soon.

  11. 11 Branden Aug 14th, 2007 at 9:10 am

    Shazzam indeed my friend.

  12. 12 Nessa Aug 14th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Branden - guess you didn’t like my joke. What if James & I get premarried? Would that make you here?

  13. 13 Branden Aug 15th, 2007 at 12:14 am

As long as there is cake…

and you pay my airfare. [wink]

James was the one that requested these, but alas, James doesn’t visit me here any more. [pout]
