Geocoding Phoenixville

Ye Olde Laundromat

I’ve been pretty enthused about geocoding images lately. Granted, I was already a fan a of geotagging my images using Flickr, but the idea of recording a photo’s location data via GPS and embedding it directly to the EXIF data is just so much cooler. I’ve been strolling around with the now discontinued, but perfectly capable Garmin ETrex Legend C. I’m downloading my tracks and mapping the location to my photos using the time in the EXIF header with the fantastic, free app GPSPhotoLinker. It’s certainly much easier, and faster than trying to manually map each photo, which is exactly why I only had a handful of geotagged photos up until this point.

You can see my first set of images taken around Phoenixville and coded using this technique here, or on my Flickr map. There’s also a link on each photo’s page that will allow you to view the location on Google Maps or fly to the location using Google Earth (which you surely have already installed right?).

You can also read a lot more on the subject including other techniques for coding/tagging your photos here and probably a gajillion other places on the web.

So sorry, thanks for waiting

Actually it would appear as though no one waited, but I’ll carry on just the same. Why the long absence? Simple, real life has been so much more enjoyable than the virtual lately. When you have a baby, you quickly realize that your time is no longer your own, and honestly, I gotta say I don’t mind that one bit. I’m relishing every moment I’m able to spend with Heather and Linus, and lately staring at liquid crystal has just left me feeling drained. So I’ve been avoiding it.

So while you may have to wait two months for my next few paragraphs of dross, at least you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that I’m sleeping soundly.

Señor Salty Chop

There’s a story to be told here, in fact a heavy morality tale. If you’ll just spend the next minute and twenty seconds with ol’ Señor Salty Chop, I think it’ll all be quite clear.

If it’s still not clear, please take a closer look.

Fun on the 4th

Fireworks

We decided to have Branden’s mom and sisters over for a sampling of Branden’s skilled grillary on the 4th. While picking up some last minute items at our local Acme supermarket, I received a call requesting that the menu be expanded to include baked beans. When I arrived home, I decided to put the bake in baked beans (as opposed to heating in a saucepan) and preheated the oven. 10’s of minutes into the preheat, I smell something a little odd and suddenly remember hiding a Tupperware container full of dirty utensils in the oven a couple of nights ago. I opened the door to find the once rectangular Tupperware, which was a proud host to many homemade truffles, now laying transformed into a puddle and dripping onto the oven floor. There’s no need to further the story.

Among the survivors were the silverware, some JA Henkel knives, and a Pampered Chef spatula (yes, ladies, these really are heat resistant). Sadly, our thermometer was swallowed up by melted plastic and was not able to be saved. I, too, would have been a casualty, but luckily I am still Linus’ primary food source, so Branden saw fit to spare me.

Just another reason why you shouldn’t purchase silverware that shalt not be put in the dishwasher.

I don’t have a picture of this, so I’m leaving you with a miscellaneous photo for this post (I like horses).
