Happy Birthday, Heather!

Heath and Nessa

Okay, the Sad Sack post has run it’s course and I’m hijacking Branden’s blog to talk about a subject near and dear to my heart, my birthday. More specifically, the day before my birthday. I was born on June 16th (year is omitted after age 29), but to one best friend, I was born on June 15th. You see, I’ve had the same best friend for 22 years now and she would often wish me happy birthday on the 18th, or some other non-16th day. After years of correction, she now proudly wishes me happy birthday every year on the 15th while stating, “I remembered it correctly this time”. It breaks my heart to have to tell her the truth given her enthusiasm for finally getting it right, but I do, and the next year I promptly receive my birthday wish again on the 15th.

I don’t want this to be perceived as poking fun of my dear friend, this is not the intent at all. This is one of my most cherished birthday memories and something that always brings a smile and laughter to my heart when I think about it. So, tomorrow marks the 15th. If my friend has truly “gotten it right this time”, I will be disappointed. Otherwise, I look forward to speaking with her tomorrow. I love you, Vanessa!

Well, this is all for now, and probably ever, as I’m sure Branden will tighten blog security measures upon reading this.

Thanks for listening. - Heather

Wow. I don’t know what to say. My blog has been hijacked by my own wife. I guess I need to be more prompt in my updates lest we risk Heather infiltration in the future.

That said, this post is not too shabby for having no formal training. Look at Mrs. Bigstuff, posting pictures, formatting text, and all while rearing my child! What can’t this woman do?

I think you’ve earned yourself an author account here, in fact, I went ahead and created one and placed this post in your name. Welcome to the world wide internets!

(and happy birthday, it’s today right?)

Okay, does it bring a smile to your face that I only remember the month of your birth and always fail to wish you a well desired BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT? It must be the Searls blood? For today: Happy Merry UnBirthday to you, to you! For Tomorrow: I wish you the Best day ever, you already have the best gift ever, you’re a mommy! :)

Branden - wow, such an honor. I appreciate you sharing your blog with me. I promise to keep in tidy and free of all clutter. Maybe we could even write a post together (now I’ve gone too far, haven’t I?).

Monica (Aug 2nd) - thanks. I’m cool with you only recognizing the month. It’s probably more than I do - although not for lack of remembering. All my wishes to others usually arrive in the form of belated. I used to blame Siemens, but I guess blame now falls on Linus. Speaking of Linus, he’s sleeping now so I better get this house clean or no birthday for me!

Heather, do you remember that time that I never said happy birthday to you since I’ve known you? Anyway, happy birthday. You always cease to amaze me.

  5. 5 Heather Jun 14th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

Thanks, Dentene. This is why you are not my best friend.

  6. 6 Best Friend Jun 14th, 2007 at 10:03 pm

I love you too Heather! The post is a perfect example of why we get along so well. You forgive me for being me.

Now, you were already expecting me to call tomorrow - I don’t want to disappoint you and call you Saturday so maybe I’ll call you on both days. Friday’s call will be to commemorate the day I always wish you Happy Birthday and Saturday to show you that I know better.

The last time I was in PA, you said “we both have milestone birthdays remember? I’m sweet 16 & you’re 21″. It stuck & your birthday from then on was actually on the day you were born - June 16th!

  8. 8 Heather Jun 15th, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Congratulations, Vanessa, you win…or I guess we both win! I hope you had a nice birthday dinner without me and ate a yummy dessert in my honor. Thanks for remembering, apparently even without the helpful hint. I will test you again next year!

Thanks for the happy wish, Eric. And we did meet - maybe you didn’t recognize me behind the giraffe mask. Would you like more cookies?

Hi Rubens - sorry, no pic of me as a giraffe. It was Eric sporting the wildlife look.

Hey Eric, is you name really spelled Erik?

  11. 11 Best Friend Jun 17th, 2007 at 8:41 am

Welcome to _2! I won’t include the first digit but you know what I mean….

Friday’s meal was wonderful. Yesterdays was so busy because of hair appt and then celebrating our Father’s - a day early. I’m sorry I didn’t call back again on Saturday.

I’m sure you had a great Birthday! Whatdya get?

Hope to mail you a pkg next wk.

my name, Erik, is spelled ‘Erik’. that is, E-r-i-Erik. this is the original anglicization of the Nordic form. you see, i’m first generation American, and all my family before me are Vikings. i’m the first to go to college, learn to read, eat with utensils, pee in the toilet, pick flowers, braid my hair, use sidewalk chalk, chew gum AND walk, do origami, watch T.V., use a flashlight, and change my clothes. my family may be a little disappointed that i never ‘pillaged’ Amelia Island, but i see it as the price of progress. and even if none of the above were true, it wouldn’t change the fact that my name is spelled with a ‘K’.

Ah, you had to write my b-day to make me feel even better. I’ll remember yours from this day forward and even call you next year to prove it! Or perhaps we “Searls girls” can make it up to you this year and plan a girly trip together while the guys do their male bonding around a camp fire (near civilization of course)? Whatcha think?

  14. 14 Heather Jun 19th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

EriK - Your list of accomplishments are very impressive - some may say they are even to write home about. However, they are all meaningless if you can not macrame.

Monica - I’m always up for a girly trip (although Linus would add a bit of boy to the mix). Don’t worry about my birthday, I’m fine being 29 again! I’ll call you soon - what’s your bedtime?

come on now, Heather. vikings don’t do textiles.

  16. 16 BF's LIL SIS Jun 21st, 2007 at 12:37 pm

Can I be 29 again also? Okay now we need to get Nessa on board for the trip. You can call me anytime before 10pm on school nights….

  17. 17 the fourth samba Jun 21st, 2007 at 7:30 pm

Now is macrame spelled with a “K”?

  18. 18 Branden Jun 22nd, 2007 at 9:50 am

Only when referring to Viking makrame, which doesn’t exist! BAM! Right inside your FACE!

    Branden’s right.

  20. 20 Naldo Jun 24th, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Wow… I’m really really late, may be I could wish you happy birthday faithfully every year JULY 1ST. Happy Birthday… I mean… Happy day that is three week’s after your birthday!

  21. 21 Heather Jun 26th, 2007 at 10:47 pm

Hey Naldo - If you go by Branden’s logic, birthdays are celebrated all month, so you’re not really, really late yet. But, thanks for the wish, it is much appreciated. And, even better, congrats on your engagement - that’s wonderful news and such a joy to hear!

Monica - I still haven’t called you - but am thinking about it every night after 10.

Vanessa - forgot to respond to you…I got an exercise bike for my birthday. We keep it in the basement and I’ve yet to use it. Not my fault, Linus has no schedule and doesn’t like naps. I also received gift certificates to the mall to do some much-needed (and wanted) shopping. I got a really good deal on a mega purse ($105 and got it for $20). I think it will be the subject of the next post. It appears as though Branden has abandoned this blog and returned home to Artificially Important.
