If you saw Lost tonight (last night) you know what I’m talking about. I generally refrain from posting here about the show as it certainly gets enough attention from more formidable geeks across the internet, but tonight turned my head inside out. Thanks to Luke for being my go-to guy for post-show theory. Heather generally falls asleep as the credits roll, so no theorizing there. And where the heck is Denty? If you’ve got a valid reason for not being a fan of this show, I’d love to hear it. I got Luke, Erik, Jared, and Danny all up in my grill, hell I even got Matt “Cylon” Andrews talking trash, but no James!?
So Ben’s a more sadistic freak than we ever thought, Richard seems to have learned how to avoid aging, and Jacob makes it hard for me to sleep at night (plus he really hates flashlights). Now I’m stuck with finding something to do for another week while I wait for another 45 minutes of this incredible story.
I’ve shared most of these links before (with those of you who care), but I’ll reiterate here. If you’re looking for something to do while you wait for Wednesday, chuck these badboyz:
Lostpedia - Definitive resource for the show’s episodes, characters, and themes.
LostCasts - There are a ton of Lost podcasts, but these are the only guys doing it right - lots of heavy theory discussions here.
J. Wood’s Blog - Amazingly detailed analysis of each episode beginning with Not in Portland. Focuses heavily on the literary references that have become more and more prevalent on the show.
Official Lost podcast - Every week producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse offer some (light) analysis and dish out a handful of answers to fan questions.
my eyes became tears for about a minute last night, and i’m pretty sure i ripped a seam in the arm of the White’s couch. i never thought a request for help could scare living piss out of me; thus is the power of those writers.
incidentally, i’m glad to see that our group think syndrome has become so acute that we can now have the same opinion without even discussing it. ‘Borg’, anyone?
What really got me on my way home from James’ was remembering that creepy picture of a dog in Jacob’s “living quarters.” That is not a happy place.
You’re right Jarhead, that dog portrait was not cool, nor where the many jars of unidentified goo (he’s into canning?). Based on Jacob’s plea and Ben’s dialog with him, I have the feeling that Jacob is being held there against his will, but by which means and to serve which purpose I’m clueless.
Cylon! omg! xyz! pdq! i love everything that’s going on right now.
could not be happier. the fact that Ben told Locke that “no one else
talks to Jacob” and that “Jacob trusts me” (very earnestly implying
that he had a special relationship) offers an explanation as to why
Ben would have been somehow envious of Locke hearing Jacob speak.
it’s like he has to know if Locke is special too but, is jealous
somehow that there might be a replacement for himself in Locke.
this is about the only thing we didn’t discuss last night B. and
let me know. i could be (and probably am) completely off here in
my deduction. continue…
I hear ya’ spunky. It seems as though this discussion has moved into my inbox at this point, but I totally agree with you. It seemed as though Ben was relishing the fact that Locke couldn’t see/hear Jacob. As soon as Locke heard Jacob speak, Ben starts to lose composure. Was he jealous? Was he concerned that Jacob let some vital information pass to Locke? Remember how intent he was to learn what Jacob had said to Locke?
Sorry I confused where to comment on this post. I hope it never happens again.
By the way, doesn’t the profile of Jacob pictured above look vaguely like Locke with hair?
Lost is great TV! May I also suggest wasting some time at the forums at: http://www.4815162342.com/
I *think* the reason Locke couldn’t see Jacob was because he did not directly kill his father. Since Ben had, he could see Jacob fine. Personally, I’m waiting for Zombie Ecko to show up and eat someone.
There’s still 2 more seasons to go!
Wait a minute! Jacob looks like Locke with hair. Jared!
Jacob looks like Locke with hair! Branden! I’m serious!
Luke - You mean with hair and a beard? I feel you dawg. My head went there too. Bring on the time-paradox!
Doki - You’re touching on something that I think we’ll definitely learn more about lately. I think there is a significant reason why Ben wanted Locke to kill his father, but I’m not sure what it was.
There’s definitely something there considering everyone on the island has - at best - a strained relationship with their father. Ben (like Kate) saw murder as the only means to fix this, which begs the deeper quesion: Is Ben “good.”
We frequently hear about the “good ones” and murder almost always plays a part in the past of those who are not deemed “good” or list-worthy. Knowing what we now know about Ben, is he “good” in the eyes of Jacob? Did he ever hold a place on Jacob’s list? Does he still hold a place on that list?
Does anybody like crab legs?
you mean stylistically, or performance wise? i mean, generally, they’re
pretty efficient and hold up well from an engineering standpoint but,
there are so many different types of crabs. can you be more specific?
i’m just really confused by the question…
Jacob looks the first “Survivor” Richard Hatch. I thought Jacob was supposed to be someone we had seen on “Lost” before. I keep looking at the picture and that is all I can come up with….I do think the dog pic is pretty stinking scary though, even though I didn’t notice it at first…also, since we couldn’t “see” Jacob do you think he it this “smoke” spirit thingy. If that is the case then he will probably save Locke..?…..
I’m not sure if we were told that Jacob would be someone we had met before, but I certainly don’t think it’s outside of the realm of possibility.
Jacob and the Smoke have to be related in some way, and I definitely don’t think we’ve seen the last of Locke. How awesome is it gonna be when Locke climbs out of that pit next season all healed up and makes his way back to Jacob’s shack to “help him.”
It could be Christian Shephard (jack’s dad)…He wasn’t in the casket…right?…I need to go back and watch the other seasons…Nothing is as it seems…
The question I keep asing myself is Nikki and her botfriend still alive…We know they weren’t dead..?…
sorry “boyfriend”..typo…
Nikki and Paulo are definitely dead. The producers confirmed this on the official podcast.
As for Christian Shepherd, he was given an autopsy in Australia, so he was definitely dead. Of course, his body never was recovered and we know the island has healing properties. Question is, can the island heal a dead man whose organs are all contained in a plastic bag in his torso?
I’m not sold on the idea that we’ll find Christian anywhere on the island alive. I do think we’ll eventually see some key part of his background story that will shed more light on the events of the island. Of course, what do I know?
Thanks..So much for my little brain to remember:)
