Ever since Linus was born I’ve been in strange mood (stranger than usual) where I just couldn’t hear music any more. That is to say, I was not interested in listening to music much. I’m not really sure why; I guess I’ve been struggling with a media overload of sorts for a while now. I’ve also been on a movie hiatus since October (more on that later).
Suffice to say that I’m finally in a state of mind where I’m able to enjoy music again (been there for a couple weeks now actually). The Books show last week was a nice way to bring it all full circle, and I’ve finally charged my iPod up again.
Here’s what’s currently floating my boat. Some of these are new, some simply deserved revisiting. In no particular order:

yes!
more on that later…
Heaviness has been rocking my finger nails off for the passed couple of weeks, now. it’s kind of hard to stop listening to it, as there are several complex layers [ergo, ‘wall of sound’] piled together, making each listen a little unique. with that, Fleeting Joys and Ulrich Schnauss all having beautiful droney albums coming out within a year of each other [not to mention Pluramon’s ‘Dreams Top Rock’ and others], is it safe to say that shoegaze is back? is this a revival, or just a *ahem* fleeting joy?
and ‘Pocket Symphony’ is really good, also.
Cat Power is a band.
Nothing gets by you Denty.
As for Heaviness, I’m still not convinced that I love it, but I definitely like it. I think they’re channeling Shields almost too much.
I’m currently more impressed with electronic acts that are incorporating bits of Shoegaze into their sound, as opposed to a straight up Xerox.
Schnauss: I’m so glad this guy has something new coming soon. The new tracks are making my teeth show.
Did somebody say new Pluramon?
Hey Branden, what did you think about that mix I dropped you after the Books show?
I finished two ttracks I have to send your way. peace.
I don’t think there is a new Pluramon. ‘Dreams Top Rock’ was their last offering. I think pretty much everyone loved that album except me. I’m just not in love with the Julee Cruise vocals, although the music is awesome.
I’m really enjoying that CD, but I’ve yet to look at the song list to see what I’m liking so much. On the ride in this morning, tracks 5 and 6 were standouts.
