Looks like Sony is getting some horrible press with their latest system launch. Of course I’m told that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, so perhaps this will work in their favor. Then again, I’m not sure how it can work in their favor if they don’t actually have any systems to sell. Among my favorites:
- Best Buy smash and grab (although the victim didn’t even have a PS3)
- Crowds rush Best Buy in River Park, CA nearly resulting in a riot
- Armed gunmen rob GameStop of their PS3 stock
- Nine months pregnant, woman ignores contractions for a chance to nab PS3
- Stampedes, shootings, fights, muggings, robberies the PS3’s got it all!
Heck, just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, turns out convicted rapists are lurking in the PS3 lines!
Meanwhile, even mainstream media is starting to see the PS3 for the overpriced, over-hyped, grill-sized door stop that it really is. Headlines like “Sony’s Playstation 3 is Not Worth the Hype,” and “PlayStation 3 can’t hide its flaws” are becoming more and more common. Will the Sony hype machine be able to spin all this press into something positive to carry them through the holiday season? Will they even have units to ship to take advantage of said spin? Will the market continue to bear $1000-$3000 mark-ups on eBay? Me thinks yes, no and yes, but somehow Sony fans will emerge on the other side still thinking that they did the right thing.

I’ll have to say’ “Yeah! Get’em
Branden! Those bastards!” on behalf
of James (who’s in Wii world at the
moment - and probably for a few
more after this one) - actually B, you’re
probably there as well, no?
Yes he is AND I heard WAS waiting all night for one.
I am indeed in the world of Wii for the moment. I promise not to forsake you guys though. Look for a post soon regarding all things Wii.

People have been smashing systems for a while now. Companies have also been creating artificial shortages for systems at release for a long time. Either way, I plan on owning both a Wii & PS3 sometime in the future, when there isn’t a line. The 360 doesn’t stand out enough to be worthwhile.
On a semi related note, pick up “Jennifer Goverment” by Max Barry sometime.
I figured the smashed Wii was on the way. I just hope it was the same purple-clad pimp that smashed the PS3.
I’m all for smashing stuff, but I honestly wouldn’t be able to bring myself to smash any of the consoles (except maybe the original Xbox).
So am I to believe that Doki sat out on both of the big console launches? I fully expected you to be in at least one of those lines!
Oddly I totally expected to be in the lines as well. Lately though I find that the consoles and games we are sold are incomplete half working beta releases. Sometimes they fix things right away, and other times not so fast. There’s so many games out for the last generation of systems that I haven’t gotten too yet that it’s hard to justify the new stuff yet. Especially if they are going to just release fixed versions next year at a fraction of the price….damn I sound old.
I feel you doggie. Although, I gotta say, check out Twilight Princess. I don’t think you’ll find that same half-finished feeling there. It’s quite impressive. It’ll make you remember why you play video games in the first place (fun). Heck, by the time you finish it there may actually be another Wii title worth owning.
