GoNintendo (as well as most gaming sites on the web) has posted a ton of reader accounts/photos of their Wii presale efforts around the country. As expected most presales were gone shortly after opening. In fact, most systems were gone within an hour. Clearly this is a good sign for Nintendo. Hopefully it’s not a bad sign for people like me who plan on walking into a store on launch day and picking one up. I’m equally hopeful that someone will buy the bloated, over-priced PS3 from me on eBay to finance my Wii purchase.
I’m often taken aback at just how superficial I can sound when posting stuff like this. Now give me my Wii!
You forgot to mention that most of the Wii preorders in Jacksonville were gone before the stores even opened!
The Wii and it’s games will be fun, but it’s annoying that they are essentially releasing the Gamecube a second time with new controllers. I also imagine the gimmick of swinging the controller around will get tiresome quickly. Hopefully they will be durable enough to withstand constant thrashings.
You could finance more than a Wii purchase with a PS3. Heck, with two you could buy a new car. People on Ebay pay silly amounts for any console at release.

Gamecube: CPU 485MHz, GPU 162MHz, 40MBs RAM
Wii: CPU 729MHz, GPU 243MHz, 88MBs RAM
… and better specs, and the ability to recognize movement within a 3d environment using innovative and already-immitated technology with bluetooth wireless play, and a virtual console for playing two decades of classics from over thirty developers, and photo editing, and web browsing, USB ports, WiFi connectivity and countless other features that would take up more space than this page would allow… like the gamecube.
Not that specs matter anyway, the launch titles alone would sell it.
