Listenating

Lilys - Everything Wrong is Imaginary
What can I say? Luke was right. I’m sorry I passed on it initially. It’s easily their best release since Better Can’t Make Your Life Better. Not only is it good, but it’s consistently good. Now hopefully Kurt will give his hometown another show before wrapping up his current tour.

Khonnor - Handwriting
Electronic wunderkind from Vermont. This is another that I stalled on. James pointed him out to me, but it took until now for me to actually find it. It’s beautiful and was worth the search. Get it!

David Pajo - Pajo
Indie music superstar. He’s been on my radar for years. Stints with Tortoise and Stereolab, but there’s nothing like that here. Simple, gorgeous indie folk pop stuff. There are many tear-inducing tracks here, but you’ll leave smiling simply because you discovered something new to love.

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Yellow Magic Orchestra and Solid State Survivor
Pioneering, Japanese electro-pop. Thanks again to James turning them on. These were definitely out of place when they were recorded in ‘78 and ‘79, but they put into context all electronic music released since. If you’re a fan of quirky, bright, genre-creating music, then you’re in the right place.

Bro, good look on the tix… can’t wait for the shows. Hey, did you buy the Khonnor record or was it a allofmp3 purchase? I’m really stoked on seeing him at the little chapel spot, should be dope. This, I think is his 2nd time playing at the church. BTW, I also have a love/hate relationship with the fork. More so on the dilslike side since I tend to disagree with them more often than not. Sometimes I agree but on the rare tip.

I had to pull some strings to get the Khonnor tunes. I’ve been looking for it (in stores) for a while now, and AoMP3 doesn’t have it either. I’ll email you a little linkage in a minute.

Pitchfork: I value their news much more than their overwrought, and often pompous, reviews.

What strings did you have to pull? Was it for a vinyl or a cd? Just curious. I found a site where you can download all the tracks for Handwriting.

Are you guys really having a hard time finding a place to purchase Khonnor? He’s on the Type label and the cd isn’t out of print. You can get in on ebay right now. You can also buy jewelry there.

I’m just having a hard time finding it locally. I know I could have ordered it, but I don’t like shipping fees and waiting. I guess you could say I’m “Oriental.”

no, “oriental” folks love shipping fees.
